I like my stuff

I've never liked coffee, but I am completely in love with the Maxwell House television commercial I've been seeing recently.

This delightful little girl makes me literally laugh out loud with joy, and makes me long just a bit for the simpler days of childhood, when liking yourself and your "stuff" seemed a much easier task than it is sometimes in adulthood.

I wonder how many minutes of each day we grown-ups spend in self-doubt, reliving unpleasant moments from our past, and worrying about what's to come in the future.  How many times do we lie awake in the middle of the night, eyes wide open, our minds racing with questions and regrets and plans and fears, with noise that is unforgiving and relentless?  Those bullying negative thoughts too easily crowd out happier ones sometimes; they scream for our attention and leave us with an overwhelming feeling that this life thing can be difficult business.

This spunky little girl is an inspiration to me, a reminder of the simple fact that happiness is ours for the taking if we only take time to remember the many wonderful things we have to be happy about.  Laugh all you want, but I seriously think I'm going to start cheering for myself in the mirror in the mornings.  Try it and see if it doesn't make you like yourself and your "stuff" just a little bit more.  Go ahead -- I dare you.
